My newest obsession

I have what some would call an obsessive personality. I call it dedication. But when I get into something, I get into it. Anything J.R.R. Tolkien had his hand in, Buffy, Angel, Firefly (anything of Joss Whedon's really), Cat Stevens, Bob Dylan, fuel efficient cars, the moon landing, Doctor Who, various actors, British comedies, international development, glasses, swing dancing... you get the picture.

I have a new one now.

Supernatural.

I know what you're thinking (at least those of you who haven't seen it yet). If I saw this poster before I started watching it, I probably wouldn't have watched it. Two laughably beautiful men looking all tough plus the CW. Not exactly my cup of tea. If someone had just described it to me, I would have passed (because the most accurate description is "two unbelievably and hilariously pretty brothers hunt ghosts and demons and such).

Luckily, neither of those things happened. I'm neck deep in the Pinterest geek community and people who loved the shows I loved (Doctor Who, Sherlock, Merlin) also loved Supernatural. I had heard of it but didn't put much thought into the show until I saw how much people loved it. I put it in the back of my head thinking I should watch it someday.

Soon after that, my brother-in-law started watching it, he told my sister to watch it, and she told me. Sara and Jacob had watched quite a bit when I started, but I finally caught up to them with season five. I'm actually two episodes ahead of them right now and I have to wait. It sucks.

Anyway, it took me a while to get really into it. It hooked me within the first 3 minutes (CRAZY awesome opener) and I enjoyed the first half of the first season a lot. I started slowing down because the show takes itself really seriously in the first season. Although a lot of the first season is genuinely creepy so I kept at it. The second season got much better. A lot more humor and the show made fun of how beautiful these brothers are.

Not only that, the story arc kept going and kept getting better and better. This first story arc is apparently 5 seasons long and super crazy awesome.

Really though, how can you not love a show with stuff like this:

And this:

And I don't have a clip for this, but it's hilarious. There's a lot of Supernatural fan fiction out there (just because I know this doesn't mean I read it. I read one short fan fic story once and that was enough to scare me off forever). Some of this fan fiction involves Sam and Dean's incestual relationship (apparently they call it "Wincest" cause their last name is Winchester). Anyway, they not only acknowledge this disturbing fan fiction in the show, they make fun of it. It's fantastic.

Anyway, go home and watch this show. Power through the super seriousness and one dimensional personalities of the first season and just remember it's the CW so everyone is always going to be super pretty. It doesn't take long for it to get crazy awesome and so far it just keeps getting better with each season.
